Vestibular Dizziness Assessment

Treating balance issues, vertigo, and inner ear dysfunction

The vestibular system is located in the inner ear and provides information on our sense of balance, position of body and head in space.  This information is then transmitted to the brain, resulting in signals to rapidly adjust the body’s movement and posture.  A disruption in this system can result in symptoms of dizziness, a sense of being unbalanced or unsteady, or in worse cases, falls.  The most common cause of dizziness is a condition called BPPV – Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo.

Our physiotherapist has undergone specific training on how to assess and treat vestibular dysfunction.  Our physiotherapist will provide a thorough assessment of the systems that may be contributing to dizziness including the oculomotor (eyes), vestibular (inner ear), and proprioceptive system (body balance).  Once diagnosed, our physiotherapist will instruct on appropriate treatment and home exercises to assist in resolving your dizziness.
